西湖殺鯽 Bleaching out the fish in West Lake

The famous tourist destination of West Lake was clearing the fish in the lotus pond with bleach ahead of its famous lotus season in the summer to prevent the fish damaging the new growth of the lotus buds. All the Night Herons in the neighborhood gathered here trying to snatch an easy meal.

走在白堤西邊盡頭，孤山附近，突見群鳥亂飛。走向動亂所在，只見多艘船在湖面撈東西，夜鷺群集荷花池邊上的分界線上。可以請楚地看見分界線內是渾白色，線外則是自然水色。一問旁邊長鏡頭的攝影人，原來是剛下了漂白粉殺魚，現正在撈已浮上水面半死或全死的魚, 和漂白粉袋。

西湖夏日以荷著名。荷花池都在人行步道旁，以浮標網限制住，而不是分散的到處都是。浮標網上也成了夜鷺站台捕食的地方。這四月底，荷花池大多連荷葉都還沒長出來，但為了預防魚吃了即將長出的嫩葉花苞，就先除魚。根據本地攝影人的說法，這殺魚行動已行之有年，西湖每個荷花池都做。如果真是如此，我相信漂白粉的劑量控制得當，殺不了荷花。

附近的夜鷺彷佛都得報而來，趁著翻肚的魚還沒有被撈起前，趕緊偷個免費早餐。
